Hard lines to the Mountain Ash 2^nd XV who lost to a try from the last play of an evenly contested game. A gale force wind made this the proverbial game of two halves, with Brecon having first use of it. Two unconverted tries in the first half, which made it 10-0 to Brecon at half time, was a good return for Mount.

The Old Firm hit back early in the second half when wing Rhys Price finished off an attack with a try to reduce their arrears to 10-5. After 55 minutes, Mount drew level when sustained pressure in the Brecon 22 from a number of pick-up and drives ended with No.8 Cameron Davies scoring and Nathan Treharne’s conversion unluckily hitting the crossbar and rebounding out.

Mount continued to pressurise. After 65 minutes, a lineout on halfway saw No.8 Cameron Davies come away with the ball, beat a couple of defenders, and get to within metres of the Brecon line where he was tackled and passed to supporting backrow forward Nathan Beasley who scored the Old Firm’s third try of the second half. Nathan Treharne converted to make it 17-10 to Mount.

Brecon made replacements who had an effect. With just 10 minutes left they kicked a penalty from in front of the posts to make it 17-13. With the game in its final minutes, the home team worked their way upfield. A penalty award was kicked to the corner, and after the ball was moved one way and then back, a home player scored in the corner to put Brecon 18-17 in front, with the referee ending the game after the conversion was missed.

Although it was a disappointing end for the Old Firm, the Mount team did well against a team which may well end up as league champions as the win takes Brecon back to the top of the table and left Mount in 3^rd place. For the spectator, it was a good game of rugby to watch, well refereed by a young official, who also played his part.
