Our History

The club's spiritual home is The Recreation Ground in Woodland Street , Darran Las. The Old Firm first played there in 1908/09 where many famous battles with the country's top clubs took place. But in 1953 in one fell swoop, the club lost it's 'first class' status when the local authority issued a compulsory purchase order which saw the loss of the grounds grandstand, dressing rooms and perimeter fencing. Mountain Ash continued to play on The Rec' but in the 1990's the ground was shut down because of safety issues after contaminants were found on the playing surface. But once again, after a period of inactivity, club officials along with local community groups were able to attract funding that has seen the old ground given a complete makeover and a new lease of life. A new pitch has been laid with perimeter fencing and an upgrading of the dressing rooms and floodlighting system. Improved spectator access and car parking facilities have been installed and it is envisaged that Old Firm will once again be playing on The Rec' in season 2010/11.
